Resolution Regarding Mercury in Dental Fillings

Printable Version

BE IT RESOLVED that the Whatcom County Democrats (WCDCC):

  1. Support the public's right to know that amalgam dental fillings are 50% mercury, and that such filling material should be called mercury amalgam, not "silver" fillings because mercury is the largest component of a dental amalgam filling; and
  2. Support a Medicaid dental bill similar to the one California passed allowing the placement of alternative restoration materials rather than mercury amalgam dental fillings in the mouths of low income people; and
  3. Support the total ban of the use of mercury amalgam dental fillings in pregnant women and children under the age of 6 in the state of Washington, acknowledging that the Dentsply amalgam manufacturer warns against ever using mercury amalgam in these groups and other at risk groups; and
  4. Support the Watson-Burton Bill in Congress which would eventually ban the use of mercury dental fillings; and
  5. Support elimination of the registered pesticide thimerosal (Cas54-64-8), which is 48% mercury, from all vaccines used in the state of Washington.
